Middle School Summer Tasks
Dear Middle School students,
Whether you are returning for eighth grade or new to middle school, we are so excited to have you in our class next year! While we hope your summer moves slowly and affords you many moments of fun and relaxation, we are also eager to begin in the fall with such a vibrant and dynamic class.
Your priority this summer is to mindfully enjoy being young and (mostly) free of responsibility. Play often and savor moments of boredom. While it comes with many perks, adulthood provides many fewer opportunities for play and boredom, and it is not so far off for you. Take advantage of this time and try to disprove the axiom that youth is wasted on the young.
At the same time, make an effort to honor the desire inherent in the young to learn, to take risks, and to stretch your imaginations and capabilities. The best way to do this is to play and to read good books. To help you do this intentionally and to prepare you for the fall, we’ve compiled some summer assignments. They are not meant to cause anguish, so try to have fun with them and plan ahead so you don’t find yourself cramming at the end of August.
Below are the assignments for humanities. You will receive an email with math practice tailored just for you toward the end of summer from Ms Shindler. Have a great summer! We look forward to seeing you in the fall.
Yours truly,
Ms. Stenger and Ms. Shindler

2023 Summer Tasks
1. Create a “Summer Bucket List.”
We have a longstanding tradition of creating and sharing these lists of things to do before it’s time to return to the classroom. You can include items that are pure fun, goals like creative projects, or learning or improving a skill. Use your imagination, but then make a concerted effort to accomplish the items that are most important to you (and realistic).
Join the VG Middle School Google Classroom and post your list by June 23 by clicking here
2. Read or listen to at least three books
We ask that you reach at least 30 words per minute before beginning middle school.
